At the just concluded 18th Joint Annual Scientific Health Conference, organized by the Makerere University College of Health Sciences and partners, AFROHUN Uganda organized a One Health symposium, alongside the main event. This is the first in what the Country Chapter promises to be an annual event. The article about the conference is available on our website. In this piece, we share with you an intimate look into the AFROHUN Uganda family and On the last day of the symposium, AFROHUN Uganda, gave out awards to those faculty that have stood by the network in Uganda since its inception. Much to the delight of everyone present!
Anthony Mugeere: “OHCEA/AFROHUN connection has been instrumental to us and not only academic, but also social”.
Aurthur Arinda: “I joined OHCEA activities as a faculty in the Department of Nursing Makerere University and now I am here as a partner working with Living Goods”.
Dr. Catherine Atuhairwe: “I am very humbled, this is the first time I am meeting the AFROHUN CEO, physically”.
Dr. Gabriel Tumwine – the village champion: “I am very grateful; when I heard about the CEO and Deputy CEO, I was humbled because you are role models, and I admire you. You are fathers and grandfathers”.
Dr. Gad Ruzaaza: “I am short of words. It is a signature moment in my life. I salute God, the beginning and end. I dedicate the award to current, past and future students of health sciences at MUST. I am not tall, but I have stood on the shoulders of giants”.
Jimmy Osuret: “Thank you Prof. William Bazeyo and Prof. John David Kabasa and AFROHUN family. I dedicate this to future students of AFROHUN”.
John Bosco Isunju: “I am happy to be a member of the family and a One Health champion. You have been very good mentors and have built capacity to take on the mantle”.
Patrick Kalibbala: “To the vision-bearers, thank you for giving us the opportunity to serve. To the rest of us, the battle continues, the germs are not resting”.
Peninah Nsamba: “It has been a blessing to work with you and we have been mentoring as we were also being mentored, ourselves”.
Sylvia Kabiri: “Thank you for this privilege and I am so thankful to have been given the opportunity to work with OHCEA. During this time, I realized we can work together as one team, the university became small because of the One Health that brought us together”.
Ssebulime: “I want to send my gratitude to the members of the OHCEA/AFROHUN family. We notice that AFROHUN has brought a shift in thinking; from mono-discipline thinking to lateral thinking. AFROHUN has emphasized the foxie mindset; a scenario planning mindset; thinking the future”.

Tom Ngabirano: “This (AFROHUN)is no longer a family but a clan, soon we will be a tribe, and I want to be a part of it. These professors here have made us what we are”.
Ronald Nuwamanya: “I am grateful to the AFROHUN family for the opportunities to serve, not only the carrot but also in other solid ways. We have been onehealthnised. I know some of the things we have been doing have been included in the AFROHUN One Health Academy, which is good”.
Vincent Michael Kiberu: “Thank you Prof. William Bazeyo and Prof. John David Kabasa for giving me the opportunity to mentor. I joined when the network was OHCEA and now it is AFROHUN”.
