AFROHUN

Introducing and Welcoming you to Africa One Health University Network

Welcome to AFROHUN

Hello, welcome to Africa One Health University Network (AFROHUN), formerly One Health Central and Eastern Africa (OHCEA).

As you can already see, we have a new name and a sparkly new logo. Allow me introduce to you our new identity and our journey this far.

As a global leader in advancing One Health, we are being true to our promise by moving deeper into Africa and working with more partners in different parts of the world. Taking on this broader mandate and reflecting that in our name, will accord us a bigger platform to influence One Health workforce development processes, narratives, plans and programs at global level. Reaching out to and working with more universities, governments, institutions of higher learning, communities, civil society and funding agencies.

We have reached a point in our life where we feel, as a network, it is time to take on the next big assignment. Our new direction and name give us confidence and optimism that we can contribute to developing a One Health workforce across the continent.

Since our founding in 2010 as OHCEA, the network has experienced tremendous growth. We have become a trusted partner  in global health, and especially in One Health workforce development; a reference point for what is working.

Our journey started with a vision to create the kind of network that brings together universities to build their capacity for One Health teaching. Today, we have grown better and bigger-attracting attention of more One Health actors interested in working with us and funding what we do.

As we become AFROHUN, we are building on what we do best; designing training programs that build competences in One Health, retooling teachers to deliver competence-based education, reviewing and designing curricula and programs that integrate One Health, creating spaces for students to fully participate in designing their  multi-disciplinary learning platforms, creating partnerships for greater impact and engaging governments for policy influence.

We are taking opportunity to evolve our identity in order to better communicate the breadth and depth of our growth as a network. This marks a significant milestone in our journey as a One Health university network; providing momentum for everything we aspire to build and achieve without losing sight of where we have been. AFROHUN represents and aligns well with our value proposition and our vision.

Some things will not change. Behind the new name and new logo, we are still the same  network; only much bigger, more ambitious and enterprising.

Our mission ‘To drive transformational change for continuous improvement of health and well-being of humans, animals, and environment through OH principles and approach to research, training and community service’ is a refined version of what we have always known about ourselves. Our focus, commitment and mission remain the same.

We are immensely proud of our work and I thank the AFROHUN leadership, the employees, member institutions, partners and funding  agencies for the work that has gone into building us into a global influencer in One Health workforce development.

As we progress and position ourselves to grow even bigger, we want to continually share our One Health story and journey with the rest of the continent and the world. Please visit our website, which we are developing into a one-stop center for  information and knowledge on One Health workforce development in Africa and elsewhere in the world.

Once again, welcome to Africa One Health University Network: Advancing One Health workforce development.
